Q
What was the image of what a man should be in the 1930s
A
The image of what a man should be in the 1930s was to be strong and a provider for their wife. Violence was seen to be a masculine trait and considering Curley didn’t have the “typical” body type of a man, Curley was in a position to feel he needs to prove his masculinity which is why he felt to be physical and have a fight with the men in the lower social hierarchy on the ranch which made the reader feel hatred towards curley considering his privileged position exploiting the weak.
