Martha Roger Flashcards
What is Martha Rogers’ theory?
Science of Unitary Human Beings (SUBH)
Rogers’ theory mainly focuses on the four concepts and three principles of hemodynamics, which are:
Concepts:
1. Energy fields
2. Openness
3. Pattern
4. Pandimensional
Principles:
1. Integrality
2. Resonancy
3. Helicy
Assumptions of Martha Rogers’ Theory:
- Human being is considered whole, which cannot be viewed as subparts.
- The life process of humans is irreparable and one-way.
- Health and illness are the continuous expressions of the life process.
- The energy flows freely between the individual and environment.
- Human being possesses the ability to think, imagine, sense, and feel and can use language for expression.
- Human beings have the ability to adapt according to the new changes in the environment.
All human beings are viewed as an _______________.
integral part of universe
Human beings and the environment have __________.
energy field
It is directed towards patterning and maintaining these energy fields.
Nursing action
It is the inevitable part of life; energy can freely flow between humans and the environment.
Energy field
There is no boundary or barrier that can inhibit the flow of energy between human and environment, which leads to the continuous
movement or matter of energy.
Openness
It is the distinguishing character of the energy field.
Pattern
Undeviating field, which is not constricted by space or time, is an infinite domain without boundary.
Pandimensional
It refers to the balance between the
dynamic life process and environment.
Homeodynamics
These principles help to view humans as unitary human beings.
Principles of Homeodynamics
Energy fields are __________ and constantly interact with humans and environment, which affects
our environment and vice versa.
dynamic
This is the principle on which meditation and humor work to produce a positive environment.
Principles of Integrality
It is an ordered arrangement of rhythm characterizing both the human field and the environmental field.
Principles of Resonancy
Any minute change in the environment leads to a ripple effect. This change is constant and unpredictable and there are many factors which mutually interact and cause the change.
Principles of Heliecy
Rogers’ 4 Metaparadigm in Nursing:
- Person
- Environment
- Health
- Nursing
A unitary human being is an open systems which continuously interact with the environment. It cannot be viewed as parts, but as a whole.
Person
It includes the entire energy field other than a person.
Environment
It is determined by the interaction between energy fields, i.e. human and the environment.
Health
In health, bad interaction or misplacing of the energy leads to ________.
illness
It is both a science and an art. It constantly maintains the energy field which is conducive for the patient.
Nursing
It directs the interaction of person and environment to maximize health potential.
Nursing action
Applications of SUBH:
- Practice
- Education
