Why are Metal Stamps shaped to produce a “U” shaped indent, rather than a “V”?
A “V” shape would cause high stress on the point and cause breakage easily.

When should Stamps and Vibratory Percussion Tools not be used?
- On aluminium alloy thinner than 20SWG (0.915mm)
- On highly stressed parts
When and why should you not use Pencils and Crayons to mark items?
When the item in question is subject to high temperatures.
This is because they can leave a carbon deposit and lead to carbonisation and embrittlement.
How would you mark small/fragile items?
Put the items in a bag/container and label.
