Manoeuvring requires the following steps: O.S.M
Observe. Signal. Manœuvre
Observe
*Directly using the car windows
*Rear-view mirrors
Signal
Left-hand lane/turning left:
*From Vehicle: Left indicator
*With Arm: Straight out horizontally, palm face down
Right-hand lane/turning right:
*From Vehicle: Right indicator
*With Arm: Arm bent and palm facing forward
Reversing:
*From Vehicle: Reverse lights
*With Arm: Straight out horizontally and palm facing back
(In case of contradiction, arm signal prevails)
Joining Traffic
(O.S.M)
Joining traffic from a private path, unpaved road or property building - you must drive at a speed allowing a complete stop to GIVE WAY to others approaching from the left or right.

Joining traffic from Acceleration Lane:
1. Make sure you pose no danger at the BEGINNING OF THE LANE
2. GIVE WAY to all vehicles driving in the lane you wish to join. Be prepared to stop if necessary at the beginning of the lane
3. ACCELERATE to reach suitable speed at the end of the lane
Overtaking
(P.S.M. - Rear View Mirror) Prepare, Signal, Manoeuvre
As a general rule you should overtake on the LEFT.
Overtaking on the right is allowed in 3 exceptions:
1. If the vehicle ahead is showing intentional to turn left or stop on the left side.
2. In urban areas - roads with more than one lane in the same direction of travel
3. Trams - you must overtake trams travelling at the centre on the rightt
If you are being Overtaken
*Facilitate the manoeuvre
*Shift to the right nut NOT into the hard shoulder
Lateral Movements
When you partially or fully invade another lane
Lateral distance
It’s mandatory to leave a minimum (no less than) 1.5m when:
*overtaking 2 wheeld vehicle
*Pedestrians
*animals
*animal drawn vehicle
*vehicles immobilised on the road
It’s mandatory to leave a minimum (no less than) 1.5m when:
*Outside urban areas (interurban roads), when overtaking other vehicles if you are riding a two wheeled vehicle
Lateral Distance - Bicycles
If overtaking a bicycle on a roadway with more than one lane in each direction you must completely invade the opposite lane
Otherwise overtake by partly or completely occupying the opposite lane keeping a width of at least 1.5m
Overtaking at Level Crossings
Is forbidden unless you’re overtaking a 2-wheeled vehicle where visibility is not compromised
Overtaking on Curves
Is Forbidden.
You CAN overtake on a curve if you do not occupy/invade/straddle the opposite lane/direction.
You can overtake a bicycle
Overtaking at Pedestrian Crossings
Is FORBIDDEN unless you do so at such a slow speed it will allow you to stop in time should you need (and no pedestrians are crossing)
Overtaking at Junctions/Crossroads
is FORBIDDEN except if overtaking:
*on the right - a car is turning left
*in junctions where you have priority
*2 wheeled vehicles
*in Roundabouts
-Urban Roads on the right or left
-Interurban Roads on the left only
The continuous line may be crossed
In order to overtake fragile users (bicycles, pedestrians, animal traction vehicles) and pass obstacles
Overtaking in Tunnels
Is FORBIDDEN unless there are two or more lanes that share the same direction
Change Direction (Turn left or Right)

Move onto another lane, enter another road or exit a road.
Change Direction - Manoeuvre

Turn right - stick to right hand kerb
Turn Left -
*One way roads - stick to left kerb
*Two way roads -
1. stick to the markings that separates the two directions - do not invade the opposite lane
2. With three lanes - use the central/middle lane to travel
Change Direction - Bicycles or Mopeds
On interurban two way roads, cycles or mop ends must use the right hard shoulder to turn left
U-TURN - Cambio de Direccion

*Only if you do not obstruct traffic
* the road marketing must be a broken line - if continuous you cannot u-turn
*Cannot reverse when making a U-turn
*If the road is narrow you can use the hard shoulder when making a U-turn
Junctions, roundabouts, intersections
Their centre should be on your left (when making a left turn)
At a roundabout, the car on the right has priority
Reversing (Marcha Atras)
As a general rule, reversing is for bitten on all roads
EXCEPT to; stop, park, join traffic, or roads closed to traffic where turning left, right and U-turns are not possible.
*You cannot exceed 15m when reversing (except at dead-end and you cannot turn left or right)
*You cannot invade a crossroad / junction (except exiting a dead-end)
FORBIDDEN to reverse on motorways and dual carriageways (highway)
Stationary / Immobilised Vehicles
(Not a manoeuvre)
Not moving for emergency reasons, traffic congestions, road traffic rules or signs, breakdown, police office (AGENT)
Stop and Parking
Stopping: Voluntary immobilisation of LESS THAN 2 mins. The driver CANNOT leave the vehicle. Ie loading and unloading
Parking: A voluntary immobilisation of 2 mins or MORE, not considered stopping.
