What is Mania
A term to describe a state of feeling or mood, that can range from near-normal experience to severe, life-threatening illness. Pathological, inappropriate elevated mood.
What is mania often associated with
Grandiose ides, disinhibition, loss of judgement, similar to effects of stimulant drugs
Hypomania
Lesser degree of mania, no psychosis. Theres a mild elevation of mood for severeal days on end. Increased energy and activity, marked feeling of wellbeing . Increased sociability, talkativeness, overfamiliarity, sexual energy. The patient may be irritable. Mild overspending
Mania
1 week, severe enough to disrupt ordinary work and social activities more or less completely. The patient will have elevated mood, increased energy, overactivity, pressure of speech, decreased need for sleep. Disinhibition, alteration of senses, ] grandiosity Extravagant spending
