Q

Steep Turns

A

Accomplished above 3,000’ AGL. Roll into one coordinated 360 degree turn, then follow with another coordinated 360 degree turn in the opposite direction. Roll into and out of turns at approximately the same rate.

Perform two 90 degree clearing turns
90kts (2000rpm) maintain altitude
Cruise configuration
Find a point off the nose as a reference and bug heading
Perform a 360 degree turn with 50 degrees of bank
Maintain altitude, apply back pressure and add 1-2,000 rpm
Upon rolling out on your reference point and heading , clear traffic and turn to the other side

Commercial
50 degree bank
Altitude +- 100 feet
Airspeed +- 10 knots
Bank +- 5 degrees
Rollout +- 10 degrees of heading

PVT
Same as above but 45 degree bank

Q

Power off stall

A

Accomplished at an altitude that will allow completion no lower than 1,500’

Perform two 90 degree clearing turns
1500 RPM (maintain altitude)
Landing configuration
Bug heading
Stabilized descent at 65kts
Throttle idle (slowly)
Wings level
Maintain altitude to induce stall
Recover - simultaneously reduce AOA, full power, level wings
Retract flaps to 20 immediately
Retract flaps to 10 when airspeed is greater than 55
Increase pitch to catch Vx
Retract flaps when accelerating through Vx
Cruise checklist

Commercial
Heading within +- 10 degrees
Bank not to exceed +- 20 degrees, +- 5 degrees if in turning flight

Q

Power on stall

A

Need to be completed above 1,500’ AGL

Perform two 90 degree clearing turns
1500rpm maintain altitude
Clean configuration
At 60kts, simultaneously increase pitch and add 2000 rpm
Increase pitch til stall
At stall, reduce AOA, full power, wings level

Q

Chandelles

A

Completion no lower than 1,500’ AGL. Consist of one max performance climbing turn beginning from straight and level flight, and ending at the completion of a precise 180 degree turn in a wings level, nose high attitude at the minimum controllable airspeed

Perform two 90 degree clearing turns
100kts (2200RPM) maintain altitude
Clean configuration
Choose reference off wing
Bug heading
Establish/maintain 30 degree bank
Full power, pitch 10-12 degrees maintaining bank
Once you get to 90 degree point, maintain pitch and slowly let out bank
At 180 degree point, wings level at minimum controllable airspeed
Accelerate while maintaining level flight
Cruise checklist

Rollout complete at 180 degree point +- 10 degrees
Just above stall speed
Then resume straight and level flight with minimal loss of altitude

Q

8’s on pylons

A

Accomplished at the appropriate pivotal altitude. Maintain coordinated flight while flying a figure eight pattern which holds the selected pylons using the appropriate pivotal altitude. At the steepest point, the bank angle should be approximately 30-40 degrees

Determine wind and pivotal altitude
100knots (2200 RPM)
Enter at pivotal altitude
Perform clearing turns
Clean configuration
Select two pylons to allow for 3-5 seconds wings level between the two
Enter maneuver on 45 degree midpoint downwind
Apply appropriate pitch corrections to compensate for change in airspeed and pivotal altitude
Maintain line of sight reference to pylon
If point is in front of you, pitch down. If point moved behind you, pitch up
Begin rollout to allow plane to proceed diagonally between the two pylons at a 45 degree angle
Begin second turn
Exit maneuver on entry heading

Q

Accelerated stall

A

Completion no lower than 3,000’ AGL. A smooth transition should be made from cruise attitude to a bank angle of 45 degree, maintaining coordinated turning flight, while increasing elevator back pressure steadily to induce stall.

Perform two clearing turns
Slow to approximately 80kts
Clean configuration
Established 45 degree bank turn
Slowly reduce power to idle
Maintain altitude to induce stall
Recover at the stall
Simultaneously reduce AOA, max power, and level wings

Q

Normal landing

A

90 it’s in the downwind
Abeam touchdown point, power back to 1500, one notch of flaps
Descend out of TPA at 70-80kts
On base, below 85, 20 degrees flaps and slow to 70
Reference glide path with VASI or PAPI
Maintain 70 until short final and flare at 65

Q

Soft field landing

A

Normal traffic pattern procedures

On short final when landing is assured, select 30 degrees flaps and slow to 65

Touch down on intended point at minimum speed with nose high pitch attitude

Keep the nose wheel off the ground as airplane slows by increasing back pressure
