Define a manager
Someone who coordinates and oversees the work of other people so that organisational goals can be achieved
What are characteristics of traditional organisations?
Stable, inflexible, top-down decision making and working in one location.
What are the characteristics of a contemporary organisation?
Dynamic, flexible, team oriented and anywhere, anytime
What are the four management functions?
Planning (define goals and coordinate activities)
Organising (what and how to be done)
Leading (motivating people)
Controlling (ensuring this run smoothly)
What are the management roles?
Interpersonal (figurehead, liaison)
Informational (monitor, spokesperson)
Decision (entrepreneur, negotiation)
What are management skills?
Technological (knowledge in the field)
Human (work well with others)
Conceptual (think in abstract situations)
