What is mammary ductal ectasia?
A
Subareolar periductal chronic inflammatory condition defined by dilated mammary ducts which are eventually clogged
Most common in post-menopausal women

What is the pathology of mammary ductal ectasia?
A
Thickened luminal secretion leading to periductal (around duct) inflammation and fibrous obliteration

What are the clinical features of mammary ductal ectasia?
A
Unilateral greenish or bloody discharge
Nipple inversion
Firm, stable, painful mass under the nipple
May form breast abscess

How is mammary ductal ectasia doagnosed?
A
(Mammogram and/or ultrasound)

What is the treatment for mammary ductal ectasia?
A
(Usually self-limiting)
Antibiotic therapy if infected
