What is the vas deferens?
Tube that begins at the tail of epididymis and ends at the posterior base of the bladder.
Where does the vas deferens travel?
Through the body cavity by means of the inguinal canal.
What is the vas deferens lined with?
Surrounded by?
secretory cells and cilia.
Surrounded by blood vessels and cremastor muscle.
What is the entire complex of structures that surround and include the vas deferens known as?
Spermatic Cord
What does the cremastor muscle do?
Works with the dartos muscle to move the testes so they remain at proper temperature for sperm development
What is the wide opening of vas deferens into the bladder’s posterior base?
Ampulla of vas deferens
What is the prostate gland?
20-30 glandular unites wrapped with tough, fibrous connective tissue into 1 donut shaped gland.
Where is the prostate gland located?
At base of bladder.
Urethra passes through it.
What does the prostate gland do?
Makes secretions that enhance motility of sperm
What are seminal vessicles?
A pair of glands that secrete fluids that sperm use as energy.
Where are the seminal vessicles located?
Superior to Prostate
What is the ejaculatory duct?
Where seminal vessicles and vas deferens merge and open into urethra.
What are bulbourethral glands?
Small, oval glands embedded in inferior body wall.
What do bulbourethral glands do?
Secrete mucous that coats the inside of urethra for cell protection.
