Male Reproductive System Flashcards
What is the route from testes to the urinary meatus?
Testes, Vas deferens, ejaculatory duct, prostatic urethra, membranous urethra, spongy urethra
Which serous membrane covers part of the testicle?
Tunica vaginalis
Name the caspule that surrounds seminiferous tubule
Tunica alburginea
What is a hydrocoele? How is it diagnosed?
Build up of fluid in the tunica vaginalis, transilumination
Which cells make up the seminiferous tubule?
Sertoli cells, aids in spermatogenesis
What do Leydig cells do?
Produce testosterone
What vessels give arterial supply to the testes?
Left and right testicular arteries from aorta
Where does blood drain to from the testes?
Left vein into renal vein, right vein direct into IVC
Describe the structure and fucntion of the pampiniform plexus
Testicular veins wrap around the artery’s to cool the arterial blood for spermatogenesis
What is the lymphatic drainage from the testes and scrotum?
Testes to para-aortic nodes, scrotum to inguinal nodes
what is a bell-clapper deformity?
Tunica vaginalis extends more superiorly allowing more movement, allowing it to twist and cause torsion
What is the treatment for testicular torsion?
Immediate surgery, the testical could necrose and die. If left in, the other teste could also be damaged
What is the name of the structure that guides the teste through the abdominal wall?
Gubernaculum
Name the 3 layers of fascia that surround the spermatic cord
External spermatic fascia, cremasteric fascia, internal spermatic fascia
Name the 3 arteries in the spermatic cord
Testicular artery, artery to vas, Cremasteric artery
