Male and Female External Genetalia Flashcards
What is the Scrotum derived from?
Skin of Abdominal Wall
Superficial fascia of Abdominal wall
What are the contents of the scrotum
Testes
Epididymis
Distal portion of spermatic cord
Describe the skin of the Scrotum
- Thin
- Pigmented
- Has a midline scrotal raphe
- Lined on the inside by the Dartos Muscle which causes rugose
What are the connective tissue layers of the scrotum
From superficial to deep:
- Skin
- Dartos Muscle
- Tunics of spermatic cord:
- –Ext. Spermatic Fascia
- –Cremasteric Muscle and Fascia
- –Int. Spermatic Fascia
ALL THESE LAYERS FUSE AND LIE SUPERFICIAL TO TUNICA VAGINALIS
What is the structure of the Tunica Vaginalis
Has two layers:
- Visceral layer: covers the testis
- Parietal layer: covers the testis and epididymis
What is the blood supply of the Scrotum
Supplied and drained by:
–External pudendal arteries and veins
What is the lymphatic drainage of the scrotum
Superficial inguinal nodes
What is the innervation of the scrotum
Anterior:
- Ilioinguinal N.
- Genital br. of Genitofemoral N.
Posteroir:
- Posterior Scrotal N.
- Perineal Branches (of the posterior femoral cutaneous N)
What are the three parts of the penis
Root, body, glans
What makes up the root of the penis
Bulb and crura
What are the two muscles associated with erectile bodies
Bulbospongiosus muscle
Ischiocavernosus muscle
What are the erectile bodies of the penis? Also, what is the fascia that covers them?
Erectile bodies:
- Paired Corpora Cavernosa
- Corpus Spongiosum
Surrounded by deep fascia (Buck’s fascia)
What is the blood supply of the penis
Internal Pudendal Arteries:
- Dorsal arteries of penis
- Deep arteries
- Artery of bulb of penis
Skin of penis supplied by the external pudendal arteries
What is the lymphatic drainage of the penis?
Superficial inguinal nodes
What is the innervation of the penis?
Sensory and Sympathetic:
-Dorsal nerve of the penis (from Pudendal Nerve)
Skin:
-Ilioinguinal Nerve
Parasympathitic nerves:
- Pelvic Splanchnic Nerves
- Enables erection
What are the connective tissue layers that cover the testis
From Deep to superficial:
- Tunica Albuginea (tough fibrous layer)
- Visceral layer of Tunica Vaginalis
- Parietal layer of Tunica Vaginalis
What is the blood supply to the testis
Testicular A. (in Spermatic Cord)
What is the venous drainage from the Testis
Pampiniform plexus
What are the abdominal wall derivatives of all of the coverings of the testis
Scrotal skin - Abdominal skin
Tunica dartos - Dartos Fascia and Muscle
External Spermatic Fascia - External Oblique
Cremaster muscle and Fascia - Internal oblique
Internal spermatic fascia - transversalis fascia
Tunica vaginalis (both) - Peritoneum
What forms the epididymis?
Convolutions of narrow duct of the Ductus Deferens
Where is the epididymis located?
Posterior aspect of testes
What are the parts of the epididymis
Head,
-Formed from ends of efferent ductules from testis
Body,
Tail
-Continuous with Ductus Deferens
What is the arterial supply of the epididymis
Testicular A
Artery of the vas
What is the venous drainage of the epididymis
Pampiniform plexus —> Testicular vein
How long is the ductus derens
25cm long
What is the course of the ductus deferens
Traverses Inguinal Canal
Crosses ureter medially to enter ejaculatory duct
What is the blood supply of the ductus deferens
Deferential A. (from Inferior Vesicle A.)
AKA artery of the vas
What is included in the female vulva
Mons Pubis Labia Majora Labia Minora Clitoris Vestibule of Vagina Bulbs of Vestibule Greater vestibular glands
What are the contents of the vulva
External Urethral meatus
Vaginal Introitus (most infeiror)
Opening of ducts of paraurethral gland
Opening of ducts of greater vestibular gland
Bulbs of vestibule
What are the parts of the clitoris
Root and Body
Where is the clitoris located
Where two sides of labia minora meet anteriorly
2cm anterior to external urethral meatus
What are the components of the body of the clitoris
Two crura
