maintaining life Flashcards
word equation for photosynthesis
water + carbon dioxide -> oxygen + glucose
where do plants get their water from
the root hair cells
how does the root hair cell get the water
the water passes through the root hair cell and the cell membrane of the cell, and into the cytoplasm.
where is the water transported
Xylem vessels
what are four reasons that plants need water
water for cooling, water for support, water for transport, water for photosynthesis.
what does the water do when it reaches a leaf
It moves out of the xylem vessel and into the leaf cells. That water is given to the chloroplasts but they only need a little water for that.
where does the extra water go
It goes out the stomata
what is Transpiration
transpiration is the loss of water vapor form leaves
what does excretion mean
Excretion means getting rid of waste materials
what are things that do not count in excretion
food is not part of excretion because it has not truly been part of the body so anything that leaves the digestive system into the blood stream has truly been part of the body
How do we get urea
we get urea from any proteins in food we eat. The molecules are then go into the blood stream
where is the urea made
urea is made inside the liver. If there is ever to much protein it makes it into urea.
what can happen if you have to much urea
Urea is a poisonous substance and if it builds up in the body, it makes people ill
what is the next after the liver stage for urea
the urea is removed from the blood by the kidneys in the excretion system.
what does the kidney do with the urea
The kidney takes the water and urea in the blood stream and dissolves them and make urine
