forces and energy Flashcards
what is the density of water
1g/cm cubed
how do you measure density
mass/volume
how do you calculate volume?
Width x length x height
how do you measure the volume of an irregular shape?
put it in water
what sinks in water
what ever has a higher density will sink anything with a lower density will float
how do you measure energy?
in joules
which is heavier cold air or hot air
cold air
heat and temperature difference
temperature gives us information about the energy of particles heat tells us the total energy particles have.
law of conservation
energy cannot be created or destroyed only transferred.
energy splitting
energy cannot be destroyed so it is all used again in some way if I drop a ball onto the ground the gravitational energy is transferred to kinetic and sound and thermal. so it is all used.
heats movement
cold air never goes to hot air. Hot air goes to cold air same with solids and liquids.
3 ways heat can be transferred
conduction, convection, radiation
the 4 ways energy can be transferred
mechanical, electrical, heating, radiation
radiation
radiation does not need to have particles to have transfer energy and heat.
conduction
solids
