Magnetic Materials Characteristics Flashcards
What is a Magnetism curve?
A graph showing the relationship bewteeen magnetisng force (H) and flux density (B) in a material.
What does the magnetism curve look like for non-magnetic materials?
A linear line that travels at 45o
What shape does the B-H curve look like with magnetic materials?
S-shaped
What are the four regions of a B-H curve for magnetic materials?
Orign: H = 0, B = 0
Heel: as H increases B increases slightly
Knee: as H increases B increases significantly
Saturation: as H increases B increases slightly
Where do machines utilising magnetic circuits usually operate in the B-H curve?
Between ‘Heel’ and ‘Knee’ of the curve
Out of these four materials (Silicon steel, cast steel, cast iron and air) list them from best to worst in terms of conducting magnetic flux
Silicon steel
cast steel
cast iron
air
