Applications of Electromagnets Flashcards
What are the five applications of electromagnets?
Tractive = Attraction of a pivoted armature.
Solenoid = Drawing in or out a plunger from a coil.
Lifting = Magnetically attracting magnetic materials for lifting or transportation.
Field coils: coiled conductors in motor and generator field poles to generate momentum.
Transformer windings: Two conductor windings wrapped around a common ferromagnetic core.
Give some examples of Tractive type applications of electromagnets:
Relays
Contactors
Electric Bell
Give some examples of Solenoid type applications of electromagnets:
Electromagnetic brake
Solenoid operated valve
Give some examples of Lifting type applications of electromagnets:
Electromagnetic crane
Maglev (Magnetic levitation) trains
