Electromagnetic principles Flashcards
What direction does magnetic flux flow?
Depends on the direction of current.
Current moving towards the observer = anticlockwise
Current moving away from the observer = clockwise
What is the Right Hand Rule in regards to magnetism?
An easy way to determine the direction of the magnetic field for conductors.
- Grasp the conductor in your right hand
- Your thumb points in the direction of the current in the conductor
- Your fingers point in the direction of the magnetic field surrounding the conductor
What happens to the magnetic field with adjacent conductors?
Depends on the direction of current.
Current moving same direction = magnetic field flows around both conductors.
Current moving different directions = magnetic field flows around seperate conductors
What is a solenoid?
A solenoid is created when several turns of insulated conductor are wound around a ‘former’ into a coil.
What is the Right Hand Rule for Solenoids?
What is Magnotmotive force?
Magnetisng force (magneting pressure) that causes magnetic flux to flow out of the North pole to South Pole.
What is the formula for Magnetomotive Force?
Fm = IN
Fm = Magnetomotive Force
I = Current
N = Number of turns in the coil
