Macromolecules Flashcards
What are the monomers? (building blocks for macromolecules)
sugars, amino acids, fatty acids, and nucleotides
What are the polymers? (macromolecules)
carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids
What is the function of carbohydrates?
the main source of energy for living things
What is the function of lipids?
secondary source of energy, storing energy and making up cell membranes
What is the function of nucleic acids?
make up DNA and RNA (contains genetic info)
What are nucleic acids made of?
hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus (nucleotides)
What is the function of proteins?
make up muscle and other tissue and speed up chemical reactions
What is the function of enzymes?
speed up chemical reactions
