Explain fats
Triglycerides form basic component of fats .
Each triglyceride consist of glycerol molecule with 3 fatty acids attached.
When digested they break down into glycerol and fatty acids
Explain fatty acids
Contain chains of carbon atoms to which hydrogen attached

Carbon that attached with two hydrogens. Most saturated fats are sold at room temperature. Butter , lard , drippings
Explain unsaturated fat
Carbon is without hydrogen fat is unsaturated : monounsaturated or polyunsaturated

Protect and cushion vital organs and acts as insulator to maintain body temperature

30-35 percent of total calorie intake , although athletes should be lower . 6-10 percent should be from saturated
