Macbeth begins his descent into madness as he hallucinates of a dagger which he then engages to murder King Duncan with.
“Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand?”
Lady Macbeth has drugged the guards so Macbeth can kill the King.
“That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold; what hath quench’d them, hath given me fire”
Lady Macbeth justifying to herself why she couldn’t murder Duncan.
“Had he not resembled my father as he slept, I had done’t”
Macbeth is uneasy and can no longer return as suggested from his speech after his killing of King Duncan
“Sleep no more: Macbeth does murder sleep.”
Macbeth is dammed and is immersed in hos guilt that nothing can redeem him from.
“Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand?”
Lady Macbeth’s morals are appointed as different due to her attitude comapred to Macbeth
“A little water clears us of this deed”
Donaldbain says this to Malcom as he knows the blame has been pinned on the wrong person. The metaphore foreshadows their death if they stay as they are the heir to the throne - so they flee.
“There’s daggers in men’s smiles”
