M6 - Estimating - How & When Flashcards
1
Q
Estimation Techniques in AgilePM
A
- Use the DSDM contingency provided by applying MoSCoW to scope out the features
- Asking people involved for estimates
- Creating estimates as precise and accurate as necessary for their purpose
2
Q
Top down estimating (4)
A
Re-estimation happens throughout the project. Don’t stick to original numbers when you get more information!
- Best estimates happen when the SDT work together.
- The team who does the work should do the estimate
- Allow for non productive time (buffer)
T Shirt Estimating
Assigns S, M, L, XL
Estimating by Story Point
Consensus based that uses group discussion to assign a relative size to each story
Points are calibrated against time
Estimating by Example
Used for T-shirt and Story point estimation
Estimating by Velocity
Uses teams previous performance to project what can be expected in the future
3
Q
Bottom Up style of Estimating
A
- Each component broken into individual elements, makes it much more accurate but takes much longer.
- Can be time consuming for large pieces of work. Not a practical choice for project or increment estimating in the early project Lifecyle phases.
