Q

is OMF Literature’s imprint for children’s books. The
word “hiyas” means “gem” in Filipino, an appropriate name
for a line of books that contain treasures for children. In
HIYAS books, readers will discover a wealth of enjoyable
stories, memorable characters, imaginative art, and
indispensable biblical values.
But at the heart of every HIYAS book is a Christian value
essential to a child’s character development. Illustrated in
stories, these essential lessons are easier to understand and
apply.

goes on stage as a musical at CCP Palanca-winning children’s
book Sandosenang Sapatos comes to life in a musical at the Cultural Center of the
Philippines. After discovering books in Japan that embraced the disabled and
encountering a patient born without legs, author Dr. Luis P.
Gatmaitan wrote Sandosenang Sapatos. Published in 2001, the story is about a family’s
love for a child born with a disability, unable to wear the shoes her father makes.
Translated into Thai and Bahasa, this heartwarming tale has now been adapted for the
stage by Layeta Bucoy, with musical composition by Noel Cabangon and direction by
Tuxqs Rutaquio.
