What is the future of cars looking like?
custtomers paying subscriptions for certain vehicle functions such as starting engine or unlocking/locking from smartphone
why do car companies like the idea of subscroptions?
- keep relationship with cust (rather than seeing them once every several years when they come for an upgrade)
- steady stream of revenue that cushions against economic cycles, esp in car ind where very susceptible
- allows to charge used car buyers rather than not getting any revenue from them
- simplify manufacturing = they can get clsoer to mass production (farther from custom stuff/lots of special combinations) and just require subscription for those features rather than specificlaly ensure car has the hardware (all would jsut have it)
What is one way car manufacturers have taken the subscriptuion idea to an whoile other level? What benefit does this potentially bring?
sibscriptoin for entire car!
pay big bucks every month to lease a car, then can switch next month or even pay more to switch as often as you want!
benefit: give customers a chance to test EVs before comitting to a purchase
