M15.17 Flashcards
What is a turbo shaft engine?
A GTE that delivers power through a shaft to anything other then a prop
What does a universal joint connection ensure?
Ensures adequate movement of transition and alignment in between engine and gearbox
How much mass of airflow do you require in turbo shaft engines?
High mass airflow
Where would a particle filter be fitted on turbo shaft engines?
On the engine inlet
What principle do particle separators work?
On centrifugal force
What do drive systems do?
Transfer power produced within the engine to its components
Why is a reduction gearbox used?
To slow down the rotational speed before it gets to the components
What does a free wheel unit do?
when 2 engines are connected to a gearbox it will disconnect the slower engine
What is the free wheel unit also known as?
Sprag clutch
What does the output shaft do?
Allows the engine to drive the main rotor gearbox
What are hydraulic pumps mounted on?
Transmission gearbox
What are the hydraulic pumps driven by?
Transmission gearbox
What is the transmission gearbox also known as?
MRGB or MGB
What provides electrical power on helicopters?
The starter generator
