M15.10 Flashcards
What does the lubrication system distribute oil to?
Bearings
Gearboxes
What type of sump do GTE’s use?
Dry sump
Where is supply filter located on the lubrication system?
Downstream of supply pump
What is the purpose of the scavenge system?
To return oil from bearing and gearbox components to oil tank
What are the 4 subsystems that make up the oil system?
Resvour
Scavenge
Vent
Monitoring
What does the vent system do to air?
Vent it to the atmosphere
What do bearings have to release the sealing air?
Vent line
How many scavenge systems does each oil system have?
1 scavenge pump per line
What does the monitoring system monitor?
Oil quantity
Oil pressure
Oil temp
What are the sensors in the fuel monitoring system?
Quantity sensor
Pressure sensor
Temp sensor
Low oil pressure switch
Filter clogging switch
What type of indicator is the mechanical clogging indicator?
A pop out indicator
EIU
Engine Interface Unit
What does the EIU do?
Relieves info from sensor to perform required measurements
What are the 2 types of transmitters used for oil quantity?
Capacitance type
Reef switch type
How do we get a oil pressure indication?
Transmitter senses the pressure difference between the total oil pressure in the oil supply and vent pressure in oil tank
What does the de-oiler do in the vent system?
Separate the oil from the air before it is vented overboard
What type of pumps are oil pumps?
Positive displacement pumps
What does the reed switch do to give oil level indications?
Uses a magnetic float that opens and closes switches as it moves up and down
Where does the oil temp thermocouple get its power from?
It generates its own power
Why do you wait 5 mins after shutting down before opening the oil filled cap?
The slow the oil tank to depressurise
Why is the engine oil replenishment recorded?
To keep track of engine oil consumption
How is engine low oil pressure warning shown in cockpit?
A warning sign come on and a aural sound as well
Where is the oil temp sensor found?
In the scavenge system
What are the 2 types of oil temp sensors?
Thermocouple
Thermistor
SOAP?
spectrometric Oil Analysis Program
What does SOAP do?
Scientificly examine oil to see if there are particles in it that may not have been caught by the filter
What is the smallest size of particle a scavenge oil filter is able to catch?
0.015mm
What is the negative with using a scavenge oil filter system?
Filter not changed very often
Filter inspection takes time
What’s the positives of a magnetic chip detector?
Easier
Takes less time
Can be electronically checked
How can you tell electronically if there are particles on the magnetic chip detector?
Has 2 magnets on the tip the ECU monitors resistance and if there are particles the resistance will decrease
How can you check the oil level?
On ECAM/EICAS
Or
Sight gauges
On engines without anti siphon when must you check the oil leaves?
5-20mins after engine shut down
Why must you wait 5mins before opening oil cap after shut down?
Hot oil could spray out
Where can details for the required oil type be found?
On a label close to the oil tank filler vap
When must the magnetic chip detector be inspected?
At fixed intervals
What are the rules regarding magnetic chip detectors?
Engineer can only check one engine and must get it cross checked
What PPE must you wear when inspecting magnetic chip detectors?
Gloves as may be hot
