M1 Topic 1 : Properties of Matter Flashcards
What is imisible.
Liquid that doesn’t mix with another liquid that creates a heterogeneous mixture
What is miscible
A liquid that dissolves with another to create a homogenous
What is heterogenous mixture
A mixture where the components haven’t mixed and show characteristics of each component
What is an example of a heterogenous mixture
Oil and water
What is a homogenous mixture
A mixture where all components are fully mixed, leaving a solution that looks uniform, having the same proportions of its components throughout the given sample.
What soluble
A substance that can be dissolved in water create in’s a homogenous mixture
What is insoluble
A substance that can’t be dissolved in water creating a heterogenous mixture
Give an example of an homogenous mixture
Saltwater
What is filtration used to separate
Taking out insoluble particles with large particle sizes
What is evaporation used to seperate
To remove soluble substances from liquid
What is decanting used to seperate
To separate liquid and sediment.
What is fractional distillation used to seperate
Through Evaporating multiple miscible liquids from a solution through using different boiling points to evaporate them and collect them
What is magnetism used to
To remove magnetic substances from other substances
What is a separating funnel used to seperate
Separate immiscible liquids from each other
What is chromatography used to seperate
To separate dye colour
