Lymphoreticular Patho Pots Flashcards
G: Tuberculous Lymphadenitis (3)
- lymph nodes enlarged and matted into confluent mass
- cut surface is pale, nodular
- friable, caseous necrosis
H: tuberculous lymphadenitis (1)
- granulomatous inflammation - epithelioid histiocytes, ring of T-lymphocytes, langhans giant cells, central necrosis
G: Classical Hodgkin’s Lympohoma (1)
- cut surface shows matted, pale homogenous surface
H: Classical Hodgkins Lymphoma (3)
Reed Sternberg cells
1. Prominent nucleoli
2. binucleated, mirrored, Owls eye appearances
3. eosinophillic background, macrophages and lymphocytes
G: Large Cell Lymphoma (3)
- enlarged lymph nodes
- cut surface matted and tan, fleshy
- necrosis
Markers for Classical hodgkins Lymphoma
B cell markers: CD20-, BCL6-, CD45-
CD15+ and CD30+
M: follicular lymphoma
B-cell marker: CD20+
Follicular Center marker: CD10+, BCL6+
Specific Marker: BCL2+
t(14:18) translocation
upregulation of BCL2+ oncogene
H: Diffuse Large B cell lymphoma (5)
- loss of lymph node architecture, loss of germinal centres
- abnormally large B cell lymphocytes
- multiple nucleoli
- vesicular nucleus dispersed chromatin
- apoptopic cells
lymphoma cells not hyperchromatic
M: Diffuse Large B cell lymphoma
B-cell marker: CD20+, CD19+
no clear defining molecular signature
H: Burkitts Lymphoma (2)
- loss of follicular structure
- Starry Sky appearance - due to rapid cell turnover and phagocytosis by macrophages
M: Burkitts Lymphoma
B-cell marker: CD20+
Follicular cell marker: CD10+
Specific: Ki67 proliferation 100%
t(8:14) translocation. upregulation of C-MYC oncogene and mutation to protooncogene
