CVS Patho Pots Flashcards
1
Q
G: Atherosclerosis
A
- yellowish plaques
- ulceration of plaque
2
Q
G: Aneurysm
A
- fusiform dilation
- yellowish atheromatous plaques
- overlying brownish thrombus material
- possible rupture need to check for
3
Q
G: Acute MI (4)
A
- concentric thickening of left ventricle - hypertrophy
- darkish area of heamorrhage
- pale region of coagulative necrosis
- occlusion of LAD
4
Q
H: Acute MI (2)
A
coagulative necrosis
1. loss of nuclei, retained cellular outlines
2. interstitial neutrophilic infiltrate
5
Q
G: Healed Infarct (3)
A
- left ventricular hypertrophy
- thinned myocardium post infarct (healing by fibrosis)
- grey-white colouration of fibrosis
6
Q
G: MI with aneurysm (4)
A
- dilated left ventricle
- thinned wall and fibrosis
- black thrombus in aneurysm (outpouching)
- lines of Zahn: alternating pale and dark areas in wall
7
Q
G: LVH (2)
A
- concentric thickening
- enlarged papillary muscle
8
Q
H: LVH
A
hypertrophy - enlarged cardiomyocytes
9
Q
G: infective endocarditis of aorta (4)
A
- left ventricle is hypertrophied and dilated
- fibrosis and retraction of cusps of aorta
- large friable brownish vegetations with ulceration
- fibrous thickening and shortening of chordae tendinae of mitral valve
10
Q
H: infective endocarditis (4)
A
- vegetation had neutrophils
- fibrin present
- dead or alive bacteria
- possible bleeding
11
Q
G: Rheumatic Heart Disease (4)
A
- mitral valve stenosis causing left atrial dilation
- left ventricle hypertrophy
- fibrosis and retraction of cusps of aortic valve
- fibrous thickening and shortening of chordae tendinae of mitral valve
12
Q
H: Rheumatic Heart Disease (2)
A
- Anitschkow cells: activated macrophages with central round nuclei and chromatin condensed onto slender way ribbon shape “caterpillar cells”
- owls eye
13
Q
G: Pericarditis (2)
A
- epicardium appears dry and rough
- covered by fine granular fibrous exudate - bread and butter appearance
14
Q
H: Pericarditis (3)
A
- thickened and edematous pericardium
- fibrous exudate
- inflammatory infiltrates
15
Q
G&H: Chronic Venous Congestion (lung) (3)
A
- expanded and heavy
- cut surface is brown due to edema, congestion, and hemosiderin deposits
- histo shows heart failure cells - macrophages phagocytose RBCs in lungs, hemosiderin deposits in macrophages appear as heart failure cells
