Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Tissue in one lymph node becomes cancerous.
Spreads from one group of lymph nodes to the next, in an orderly fashion.
Most treatable type of cancer.
Incidence of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Peaks in teens and young adults, and again in adults aged 50-60.
No exact cause, no specific risk factors.
Clinical Manifestations of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Large, painless lymph node.
Fevers
Night Sweats
Unexplained weight loss.
Sometimes no symptoms.
Diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Lymph node biopsy- checks for Reed Sternberg cells.
Medical Treatment and Nursing Interventions for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Depends on staging.
Stage I and II- external radiation.
Nursing interventions geared toward managing the side effects of treatment.
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Does not have Reed Sternberg cells.
More common in men.
Cause unknown.
