Lymphatics Flashcards
Blockage points
Thoracic outlet: final point of blockage
Thoracic duct: legs, pelvis, abdomen, left arm chest and head
Cisterna chyli: abdomen
Legs: popliteal fossa
Lymph path
Foot through gastrocolic heads through popliteal fossa through hamstring heads under inguinal ligament to thoracic duct
Cysterna chyli to thoracic duct to thoracic outlet
Axilla to thoracic outlet
Treatment steps
Treat most proximal blockage first
1. Thoracic outlet (clavicles, scalenes, ribs 1 and 2)
2. Diaphragm (ribs, spine, breathing issues)
3. Hips (obesity, ant leg muscles, psoas)
4. Post knee (popliteal fossa, heads of hamstrings and gastroc)
Pump lymphatics
Axillary point (pec minor, humeral dysfunction, rib dysfunction)
Organ drainage
Heart and lungs drain into right lymphatic duct
Left upper lobe drains into left lymphatic duct
Indications
Anything with swelling or edema
CI
Fracture Dislocation Fever > 102F Abscess Anticoagulants Cancers Absolute: necrotizing fasciitis
