HVLA Flashcards
HVLA
Direct (through barrier)
Passive (physician does everything)
HVLA = HALD
Barriers
Physiological: restriction under active motion
Anatomical: restriction under passive motion
Pathological: before physiological barrier causing restrictive motion
Types
Direct: toward restrictive barrier, 1-2 axes of motion
Indirect: away from restrictive barrier, improves one plane of motion
Relative CI
Strain, sprain, osteopenia, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, disc bulge or herniation, congenital abnormalities, hypermobility
Absolute CI
Joint instability, osteoporosis (severe), metastasis, osteoarthritis with ankylosis, osteomyelitis, infection, joint replacement, Downs, dwarfism
Tart
Tissue texture abnormality
Asymmetry
Restriction of motion
Tenderness
Rules
Warm up (prevent injury and need less force) Everyone comfortable
