lymphatic system pt 1 - unit 3 Flashcards
immune cells made here. lymphocytes mature.
bone marrow
certain lymphocytes mature.
thymus
houses immune cells, filter material out of blood, site for immune reaction
spleen
carry lymph, tiniest lymphatic capillaries
lymphatic vessels
bean shaped, connects to lymphatic vessels, house immune cells, filter material from lymph, site for immune reactions
lymph nodes
large lymph nodes
lymphatic nodules
fluid in lymphatic vessels, nodes, and nodules. derived from interstitial tissue.
lymph
lymph flow
blood plasma through blood capillaries into interstitial fluid through lymphatic capillaries to lymph.
bodys defense against microbes, chemicals, cancer.
immunity
2 forms of immunity
innate and acquired immunity
innate immunity (2)
2 lines of defense
body’s natural defense. skin, mucous, oils, etc
1st line of defense. (innate immunity)
interferons, complement proteins, WBC, inflammation, fever
2nd line of defense (innate immunity)
cytokinesis (immunity hormones) released by infected cells. act on neighboring cells to produce virus defense.
interferons
proteins produced by liver and released into blood. bind to surface of bacteria to be phagocytozied.
compliment proteins
