fluid in lymphatic vessels, nodes, and nodules. derived from interstitial tissue.

2 lines of defense
body’s natural defense. skin, mucous, oils, etc
1st line of defense. (innate immunity)
interferons, complement proteins, WBC, inflammation, fever
2nd line of defense (innate immunity)
cytokinesis (immunity hormones) released by infected cells. act on neighboring cells to produce virus defense.
interferons
proteins produced by liver and released into blood. bind to surface of bacteria to be phagocytozied.
compliment proteins
neutrophils
leave blood and enter injured/infected tissues then phagocytosis then commit suicide.
monocytes/macrophages
monocyte leave blood and enter tissue to become macrophages, then phagocytosis if tissue becomes injured/infected
eosinophil
fight parasites, help mediate inflammation, responsible for allergies
basophil
mediate inflammation, responsible for allergies by releasing histamine
innate immune responde to tissue injury wehere cells release cytokines to cause swelling
inflammation
main type of cytokines. activate pain receptors, filate arteries and arterioles, increase capillary permeability
prostagiandins
elevated body temperature to increase immune cell function. caused by pyrogens acting on hypothalamus
fever
immunity devolped throughout life in response to exposure of microbes, cancers, vaccines
acquired immunity
molecule that triggers immunity due to an acquired immunity
antigen
proteins on the surface of lymphocyte that have ability to bind to an antigen
antigen receptor
