Hypersplenism
Overactive spleen. It removes the blood cells too early and too quickly
Splenomegaly
Larger-than-normal spleen
Lymphedema
Selling of the tissues because of an abnormal accumlation of lymph fluid within the tissues
Allergy
Also called hypersensitivity. Overreaction by the body to the particular allergen, or the substance that produces the allergic reaction. The allergen produces the allergen that initiates the immune response
Autoimmune diorder or disease
Immune system produces antibodies against its own tissues
Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID)
Inherited conition in which the malfunctioning immune system causes an increased sustainability to infection and failure to thrive
Immunodeficiency Disorders
Immune response is compromised, meaning that it is not functioning at all or weakened
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
Bloodborne infection where the virus damages or kills the T cells of the immune system
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)
Most advanced stage of an HIV infection
Lymphadenitis
Also called swollen glands. Inflammation of the lymph nodes or lymph glands
Lymphadenopathy
Disease process that imppacts a lymph node or nodes
Lymphangioma
Benign tumor formed by an abnormal collection of lymphatic vessels because of a congenital malformation of the lymphatic system
Tonsillitis
Inflammation of the tonsils leading to swollen tonsils, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, tender lymph nodes in the neck, and potentially fever
Cellulitis
Bacterial infection that leads to painful, red infection
Follocuitis
Infection of the hair follicles causing red, swollen bumps similar to pimples
Impetigo
Infection causes oozing sores, typically in children
Food poisoning
Numerous bacteria that cause different types of foodborne illnesses
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
Bacteria can also cause many different infections
