Crackle Associations
A
-Wet crackles (secretion movement) vs Dry crackles (opening of closed airways)
-Occur typically with INSPIRATION
Associated with restrictive/obstructive pulmonary diseases, atelectasis, fibrosis, pulmonary edema, or pleural effusion

Pleural Friction Rub
A
- Dry crackling heard during inspiration AND expiration over place the pt feels pleuritic pain
- Inflamed visceral and parietal pleurae rubbing toether

Rhonchi
A
-“snoring” or “gurgling” heard with inspiration AND expiration by an airway obstructed by inflammatory secretions/liquid, bronchial spasm, or neoplasms

Stridor
A
- High-pitched wheeze with inspiration OR expiration
- Indicates upper airway obstruction

Wheeze
A
- Musical/whistling sound inconsistent from minute to minute and area to area
- From vibration of small airway walls due to narrowing from bronchospasm, edema, collapse, neoplasm, or foreign body
