Lung Pattern Radiography Flashcards
What are the four lung patterns?
Alveolar
Interstitial
Bronchiolar
Vascular
What does alveolar pattern look like?
Soft tissue opacity wash out
Can look fluffy
Border obliteration of heart
Air bronchograms present
Why does alveolar pattern occur?
Fluid/cells in alveoli
Air still in bronchioles
Causes of alveolar pattern
Pulmonary oedema
Haemorrhage
Pneumonia
What does interstitial pattern look like?
Lungs still filled with air with hazy fog of grey
Smudged vasculature
Can still see cardiac silhouette
Causes of interstitial pattern
Artefact from under exposure or exhalation
Interstitial pulmonary oedema
Haemorrhage
Pulmonary fibrosis
Neoplasia
What does bronchiolar pattern look like?
Super bright tramlines/donuts
Why does bronchiolar pattern occur?
Thickening and increased prominence of bronchial walls
Usually secondary to chronic inflammation
Causes of bronchiolar pattern
Chronic bronchitis
Feline asthma
Eosinophilic lung disease
What is vascular pattern?
Always present
Can be emphasised by Heart/lung worm
D imitis/A vasorum
How many lobes does each lung have?
Right - 4 (RCr, RM, RCd, RA)
Left - 2 (LCr, LCd)
