what is straigt-leg raise testing for?
pain suggests L5 or S1 root compression,
pain w/ contra-lateral or cross straight leg raise is extremely sensitive for large centrally herniated disk l4-5 or l5-s1 compressing spinal cord
what is FABER test?
sacroilitis w/ ankylosing spondylitis
what is piriformis test?
piriformis syndrome (entrapment or irriation of the sciatic nerve by piriformis muscle)
what is the treatment for lumbar radiculopathy?
NSAID, moist heat and rest, PT for traction, repeat exam in 2-3 weeks, referral to thoracic surgeon if no improvement.
what is the treatment for lumbar stenosis?
NSAID, moist heat, topical analgesics, PT for lumbar spine flexion, MRI study, avoid lumbar spine activities, PT for 2-3 months
