LTOT Indications in COPD
(ATS 2020 guideline: Home O2 therapy for adults with chronic lung disease)
severe hypoxemia: LTOT for ≥15h/d
Severe hypoxemia definition:
1) PaO2 ≤ 55mmHg or SpO2 ≤ 88%
2) PaO2 56-59mmHg or SpO2 89% + one of 3:
i) oedema
ii) haematocrit ≥55%
iii) p pulmonale
moderate hypoxemia: LTOT not recommended
Mod hypoxemia: SpO2 89-93%
severe exertional RA hypoxemia: ambulatory O2
LTOT indication in ILD
(ATS 2020)
Severe hypoxemia: LTOT ≥15h
Severe exertional RA hypoxemia (SpO2 ≤88% on 6MWT): ambulatory O2
Education on LTOT use
To be given to pt & care-giver:
i) Smoking cessation
ii) Fire prevention
iii) Tripping hazard
iv) adherence to O2 prescription
v) maintenance & troubleshooting of O2 equipment
