Lower Limb Nerves- THE OBTURATOR NERVE Flashcards
Where does the OBTURATOR NERVE come from?
Starts at the LUMBAR PLEXUS- L2, L3, L4
What is the relationship of the OBTURATOR NERVE to the PSOAS MAJOR muscle?
The Obturator nerve passes through the Psoas Major muscle (but does not innervate it)
Describe the Course of the OBTURATOR NERVE?
- Starts from the Lumbar Plexus (L2, L3, L4)
- Passes through the Psoas Major Muscle
- Travels along the Pelvic Wall
- Enters the Obturator Canal
- Exits the Obturator Canal to enter the MEDIAL COMPARTMENT OF THE THIGH
In general, what are the MOTOR Functions of the Obturator Nerve?
HIP ADDUCTION
HIP LATERAL ROTATION
What Muscular Compartment of the Thigh does the Obturator Nerve Innervate?
MEDIAL COMPARTMEMT
What are the Muscles of the Medial Compartment of the Thigh?
-Adductor Magnus
-Adductor Brevis
-Adductor Longus
-Gracilis
-Obturator Externus
In general, what are the SENSORY Functions of the Obturator Nerve?
Sensation to the Medial Aspect of the Thigh
CUTANEOUS BRANCH OF OBTURATOR NERVE
