Lower Limb Nerves Flashcards
Lumbar plexus branches and roots
I i get laid on friday —2 from 1,2 from2,2 from 3 roots
Iliohypogastric Ilioinguinal Genitofemoral Lateral femoral cutaneous Obturator Femoral
Nerve supply of thigh
Sciatic nerve
Map O F Sciatica Sciatic nerve (l3l4s1s2s3) Branches are tibial nerve and common fibular nerve and it supplies muscles of leg and foot and posterior of compartment of thigh And nearly entire skin of leg
FEMoral nerve injury
Pelvic fracture
FEM flexion extension and medial leg sensory loss
Obturator nerve injury
Pelvic Surgical(by operator) Medial thigh sensory loss and adduction loss
Iliohypogastric nerve
Genitofemoral nerve injury
Abdomin-ill surgery
Sensory loss of suprapubic region
Sensory loss of GENITALS scrotum n labia
Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve injury
LFC lazy fat clothing
Caused by tight clothes
Sensory loss of anterior lateral thigh
Sciatic nerve injury
Under piriformis therefore damaged by piriformis injury n sciatic herniation
All the leg+foot sensation except saphenous nerve is supplied by sciatic nerve and all motor functions of leg and foot are lost
Common peroneal (fibular) nerve Tibial nerve injury
Injury at fibular neck fracture or blow to lateral aspect of leg and when it passes through the piriformis muscle instead of passing inferior to it along with tibial n
PED—> peroneal everts dorsoflex
Foot drop n patient cant stand on
heals
Popliteal cyst-tarsal tunnel syndrome
TIap—> tibial inverts plantarflexes
Patient cannot stand on toes
Superior gluteal nerve
Inferior gluteal nerve muscle innervations
Superior gluteal nerve is above the piriformis muscle and give innervations to gluteus minimus gluteus medialis and tensor fascia latae
Inferior g n comes below the piriformis musle
And innervates gluteus maximus
Seperior gluteal nerve damaged
Inferior gluteal nerve
Caused by posterior hip dislocation and surgery
Causes waddling gait(mtk k chlna)
Positive trendelenburg sign
Patient cannot keep upper hip balance bcz when standing on one leg
Gluteus max do not work thus patient feels difficulty to stand from sitting position and weakness in climbing stairs
Sensory innervation of leg and foot
Medial leg and medial foot is supplied by saphenous nerve(branch of femoral nerve)
Posterior leg and lateral foot is supplied by sural nerve(combination of both peroneal and tibial branch)
Dorsal foot is supplied by superficial fibular nerve except first dorsal web space which is supplied by deep fibular nerve
Sole of foot is supplied by medial and lateral branches of tibial nerve
Medial circumflex femoral artery supplies
Perforating arteries supply
Head of femur(avascular necrosis)
Posterior thigh
Innervations of sole of foot
Tibial nerve divides into medial and lateral plantar nerves
Medial plantar nerve is homologous to median nerve of hand and supplies LAFF muscles(lumbricals, adductor hallucis, flexor digitorum brevis and flexor hallucis brevis)
Lateral plantar nerve is homologous to ulnar nerve supplies all intrinsic muscles of sole except LAFF muscles
Innervations of medial and anterior compartment of leg
Common fibular nerve divides into deep fibular nerve and superficial fibular nerve
Dfn supplies anterior compartment of leg
Sfn supplies lateral compartment of leg
