Lower Limb ligament tests Flashcards
Anterior draw test (ankle)
Assess anterior talofibular ligament
Talar tilt test (ankle)
Assess calcaneofibular ligament
Invert foot
Lateral ankle ligaments
Anterior talofibular
Calcaneofibular
Posterior talofibular
Injured MOI plantarflexion and inversion
Medial ankle ligaments
Superficial: tibionavicular and tibiocalcaneal
Deep: anterior and posterior tibiotalar
Eversion test talar tilt
Test medial deltoid ligaments (sup: tibionavicular and tibiocalcaneal, deep: ant and post tibiotalar)
Evert foot, same as talar tilt
Cruciate ligaments info
Anterior cruciate: anterior intercondylar tibia to lateral femoral condyle- anterior draw test
Posterior cruciate: posterior intercondylar tibia to medial femoral condyle
Posterior draw test
Cruciate leg tests
Ant draw: knee flex 90, draw tibia anteriorly
Post draw: knee flex 90, push tibia posteriorly
Collateral ligaments and test
medial collateral ligament: med epicondyle to prox tibia. attaches to joint capsule and medial meniscus, likely to damage. Prevents valgus movements, valgus stress tests
Lateral collateral ligament: lat epicondyle femur to head of fib. Prevents varus movements. Varus stress tests
Medial meniscus test (mcmurray)
Lie supine, fully flex knee then extend knee with external rotation for a valgus stress test
Lateral meniscus test (mcmurray)
Lie supine, fully flex knee then extend with internal tibial rotation a
For a varus stress test
Lachmans test
More
30 flexion, draw tibia anteriorly
Tests ACL. Sensitivity 94%
Obers test
Tests lateral hip structure length- tfl and ITB
Side lie with leg straight, let it hang, see if it touches the plinth
Modified Thomas test
Length of hip flexors rec fem.
Sit on edge of plinth, lift knee to chest and rock backwards. Let other leg hand down off edge
Patella glide and compression
Anterior parellofemoral joint pain
Thompson test
Squeeze calf for Achilles rupture. Positive test for rupture if foot does not plantar flex.
