LOWER LIMB: Blood Supply and Innervation Flashcards
FEMORAL ARTERY
Conti.nuation External Iliac Artery
Deep Femoral= 1-5cm inferior to Inguinal ligament
4 Perforating branches
Through Adductor Magnus
Terminates as 4th perforating branch in Adductor Hiatus as Popliteal Artery
Pulse - halfway between ASIS and Pubic Symphysis
CRUCIATE ANASTOMOSIS
Connection of 4 arteries around Femoral Neck
CONTRIBUTIONS:
MEDIAL and LATERAL Circumflex Femoral Arteries
- from deep artery thigh
First Perforating Branch
- from deep artery thigh
Inferior Gluteal Artery
- from internal iliac artery
FEMORAL HEAD AND NECK
Artery of round ligament ~ from Obturator Artery
Retinacular Arteries ~ from Medial and Lateral Circumflex Femoral Arteries
ANTERIOR TIBIAL ARTERY
From Popliteal Artery
Enters through gap in Interosseus Membrane
Descends between Tibialis Anterior and Extensor Digitorum Longus
Becomes Dorsal Pedal Artery at ankle
- Midway between Lateral and Medial Malleoli
- Dorsal Pedal Pulse felt
POSTERIOR TIBIAL ARTERY
From Popliteal Artery = gives off Fibular Artery
Descends Anterior Triceps Surae
Through Tarsal Tunnel = becomes Medial and Lateral Plantar Arteries
GREAT SAPHENOUS
Union Dorsal veins on Medial side, big toe and Dorsal venous arch
COURSE:
-Ascends Anterior Medial Malleolus
- Posterior to Medial Condyle Femur (hand breadth Posterior to Patella Medial border)
- Crosses Saphenous opening Fascia Latae
- Drains into Femoral Vein
SMALL SAPHENOUS
Union Dorsal veins Lateral side, small toe and Dorsal venous arch
COURSE:
- Ascends Posterior Lateral Malleolus
- Lateral border Calcaneus Tendon
- Inclines midline Fibula (penetrating deep fascia)
- Ascends between heads Gastrocnemius
- Drains into Popliteal Vein
INGUINAL LYMPH NODES (Superficial)
UPPER Group:
- Below/Parallel Inguinal ligament
- Drain Glutes and Abdomen (inferior to umbilicus) and External Genitalia
LOWER Group:
- Next to Great Saphenous
- Drains lower limb (except Popliteal nodes)
INGUINAL LYMPH NODES (Deep)
Adjacent Femoral Vein
Drain:
~ Superficial lymph nodes
~ Penis
~ Lymph vessels next to Femoral Artery
