LOW RISE FIREPROOF Flashcards
LESS THAN 75 FEET
LRFPMD…
- generally older buildings, may be found in close proximity to HRFPMD.
- fireproof construction
- 3-7 stories
- isolated or attached
- may be 2 separate sections, separated by fire doors
- single stairway or two remote stairways –open or enclosed
- may have elevators–use stairs 7 or below
- USUALLY NOT equipped with standpipe systems
Because of the LOWER building height of these fireproof buildings and the heavy smoke conditions that usually occur int eh attack stairway…
EMPHASIS , placed on venting the attack stair bulkhead AFTER APPROVAL OF IC, early in operation
-this is accomplished by 1st and 2nd roof positions(permission of IC)
ROOF ACCESS…
- interior stairway of adjoining building
- fire building wiTH 2 SEPARATE SECTIONS (open stairway, CLOSED FIRE DOORS)
- ISOLATED BUILDING–2 STAIRWAYS/enclosed evacuation stair
- isolate building –one stairway (door control)
ENGINE OPS…
1 3/4” OR 2 1/2”
When can use 1 3/4” hose..
- -if hallways in structure are small, that is EVERY APARTMENT DOOR IS WITH 50 FEET OF EVERY STAIRWAY ON THAT FLOOR, then 1 3/4” hose can be used
- Division commanders shall ensure that non-standpipe buildings where 1 3/4” can be used are entered into CIDS
1st LADDER.
- LCO initiate and control ventilation of fire apt.
- notify if stairs are oPEN OR CLOSED
- designate ATTACK STAIRWAY, notify IC AND ENGINE OFFICER–also important to Roof FF
- -once attack stair selected, ALL OPS are to proceed from this stairway, EXCEPTION: ROOF FF use EVAC STAIR TO ROOF (in HRFPMD: Roof FF uses attack stairway)
- fire apt. /door control /search/ door control: one member inside maintaining door control (not locked)
1st due OV. and LCC
OV–Halligan, halligan hook/LCC-halligan /axe (only part in books where LCC tools are specific)
- outside survey –quicker to split and survey from opposite directions
- if fire floor can be laddered, OV/LCC will perform VEIS from exterior /often 4th floor can be reached with 35 foot ladder
- no outside ops–fire floor to assist with search of hallways and fire apt.
- if 2nd ladder is delayed and not on scene, LCO can order these members above the fire to provide horizontal vent or assistance with apt. layout
1st due ROOF FF…
-Halligan hook, halligan, LSR (no curtain )
-procceed to roof
-check bulkhead stair for occupants and close door the done
-ventilation of bulkhead when ordered by IC
ROOF ACCESS:
1. stairway in attached /adjoining building/individual building with two separate sections protected by fire doors, use of protected adjoining section–doors check on fire floor and floor above to make sure they are closed
2. enclosed evacuation stairway
3. AERIAL ladder or TOWER ladder
4. ISOLATED BUILDING /ONE OPEN INTERIOR STAIRWAY to roof: decision made by LCO whether or not roof vent is required…stairway not an IDLH , roof ff ordered to roof, provided that apt. door is controlled and maintained closed by LCO, (if stairway is IDLH , then team up), in either case, fire apt. door must be maintained closed until the ROOF FF has communicated to their OFFICER that they are on the roof in a safe area AND the bulkhead door is closed
-roof ff will remain on roof until fire is under control and stairway is safe to descend
2nd LADDER/inside team..
–KO CURTAIN
-all floors and stairs above fire floor
-locate force entry into apt. directly above
-assist with KO CURTAIN/LSR if needed
TOP FLOOR FIRE:
-coordinate vent, entry, search of fire floor with first ladder company
-2ND ROOF FF WILL BRING CURTAIN
2nd due OV/LCC…
- -outside survey, assist 1st due with exterior ops
- -no outside ops, proceed to floors above the fire assist with searches
- may assist with LSR on floor above
2ND DUE ROOF FF…
TOP FLOOR FIRE–bring KO CURTAIN
-halligan hook, halligan, LSR
-PROCEED TO roof, assist 1st due roof ff with ventilation
-LSR OPS anD KO CURTAIN deployment for TOP FLOOR FIRES
-
CIDS in LRFPMD..
-roof access
-hydrant location
-apparatus access
1 3/4” hose line when approved
-number an types of stairways
LSR rescue …
-operate from roof, if practical
-1st roof ff must make determination if LSR can be performed from roof level
if LSR not practical from roof level
-if 2nd due roof has not yet reached roof, 1st due should direct that member to APT. ABOVE
-in buildings with 2 enclosed stairways , 2nd due roof ff may descend evacuation stairs to the apt. directly above the fire apt.
