Low Enroute Chart Flashcards
What are MTRs?
MTRs are Military Training Routes.
IR1206 → below 1,500 AGL; IR123 → above 1,500 AGL.
What are Federal Airways?
Federal Airways extend 4 Nm to each side of the centerline, with a floor of 1,200 AGL.
What are Victor Airways?
Victor Airways are designated airways for navigation.
V12 → East/West airway; V13 → North/South airway. Extends from 1,200’ AGL up to, but not including, 18,000 MSL.
What are Jet Routes?
Jet Routes exist only in Class A airspace from 18,000 MSL to FL 450.
What are RNAV Routes?
RNAV Routes are high and low altitude routes.
High altitude RNAV routes are Q routes; low altitude RNAV routes are T routes.
What are Preferred IFR Routes?
Preferred IFR Routes are published in a chart supplement.
What is MEA?
MEA stands for Minimum Enroute Altitude.
Ensures navigation signals are strong enough for reception and obstacle clearance. 1,000 in non-mountainous, 2,000 in mountainous areas. If there is a break in the signal coverage, it is called an ‘MEA GAP’.
What is MOCA?
MOCA stands for Minimum Obstacle Clearance Altitude.
Nav reception is ensured within 22 NM of NAVAID defining the route. *3400, 2000, 1000.
What is MRA?
MRA stands for Minimum Reception Altitude, the lowest altitude at which an intersection can be determined from an off-course NAVAID.
What is MCA?
MCA stands for Minimum Crossing Altitude, charted when a higher MEA route segment is approached.
Usually indicated when approaching steeply rising terrain and obstacle clearance and/or signal reception is compromised.
What is MAA?
MAA stands for Maximum Authorized Altitude, the highest altitude at which the airway can be flown with assurance of receiving adequate navigation signals.
Example: ‘MAA-15000’.
What is Sideways T?
Sideways T indicates a change in MEA, MOCA, or MAA on a segment.
What is COP?
COP stands for Change Over Point.
If a COP does not appear on an airway, the frequency should be changed midway between the facilities.
