Streptococcus Pneumoniae and Klebsiella pneumoniae
What demographic is Streptococcus Pneumoniae infection commonly seen in?
Middle aged adults and the elderly
What demographic is Klebsiella Pneumoniae commonly seen in?
Malnourished and debilitated individuals, especially elderly in nursing homes, alcoholics, and diabetics.

What are some complications of Streptococcus Pneumoniae infection?
- Most common cause of community acquired pneumonia and secondary pneumonia
What is secondary pneumonia?
Bacterial pneumonia superimposed on a viral upper respiratory tract
What is the source of Klebsiella pneumoniae infection?
Enteric flora that is aspirated
What are some complications of Klebsiella pneumoniae infection?
Its thick mucoid capsule results in gelatinous sputum (currant jelly)
It is often complicated by abcess
