What are the circumstances in which “check fire” may be invoked?
- Aircraft with control, navigation or comms issues
- Aircraft diverting in extreme weather
- Any situation which captain or controlling authority determines necessary for safety
What is the procedure for emergency check fire?
- LAC contact SPTA asap stating “Danger Area Check Fire, what altitude are you operating to?”
- Subject aircraft may overfly at least 1000ft above (2,000ft above UAA)
- If situation demands, check fire may be applied as expeditiously as possible to permit emergency aircraft to a lower level
- SPTA will phone back to confirm
- Check fire will not apply to activity below max level required
- Information on location of the aircraft shall be passed as bearing and flying time from relevant DA
- SPTA to be notified once aircraft is clear of DA
