LL Special Tests (Quiz 3) Flashcards
Patrick’s Test
FABER
Primary Position: supine
Results: negative test indicated by knee of test leg falling to table OR parallel
Correlates: limited motion at the hip joint
Trendelenburg’s Test
Maneuver: patient stands on one leg
Results: positive test is indicated if the pelvis on the contralateral side drops when patient stands on affected leg
Correlates: indicates a weak gluteus medius or unstable hip
Craig’s Test
Ryder Method
Maneuver: Prone, with knee flexed 90 deg; hip is passively rotated medially
correlates: anteversion of the femoral nerve
Thomas Test/Kendal Test
Maneuver: supine
Results: positive knee off table
Correlates: Hip Flexion contracture
Thomas = off table
Kendal = on table
Ober’s Test
maneuver: patient is side lying with the leg flexed at the hip; lowers the top leg slowly
Results: if contracture present, leg remains abducted and does not fall to table
Correlation: tight, contracted or inflamed tensor fasciae latae & IT band
Lachman Test
- Maneuver: patients femur is stabilized with one hand while proximal aspect of the tibia is moved forward with other hand
- Correlates:ACL Injury
Drawer Sign
- Maneuver: patient’s foot is held on table by examiner, hands are placed around the tibia, tibia is drawn forward on the femur
- normal amount of movement aprx 6 mm
- Correlates: mostly ACL injury
Godfrey (Gravity) Test
- Maneuver: patient lies supine, knees flexed @ 90
- Correlates: PCL Injury
- Results: if posterior instability, posterior sag of the tibia is seen
Anterior Drawer (for the ankle)
Results
Straight anterior movement: indicates both medial and lateral ligament insufficiencies
One side tear: only one side would translate forward
Talar Tilt
Adduction: tests calcaneofibular ligament
Abduction: stresses the deltoid ligament
Thompsons Test
squeezes calf muscle
absence of plantar felxion when muscle is squeezed
Feiss Line
marks on the foot
- first met
- navicular
- med mal
Orolani’s Sign & Barlows Test
- Maneuver: examiner flexes the hips and grasps the legs, thighs are abducted
- Positive Finding: Click/Pop (Ortolani); Reduction of Hip joint (Barlow)
- Correlates: Congenital Dysplasia of the Hip
Galleazi’s Sign
- Maneuver: observes patient in supine position with hips and knees flexed and feet on table
- Positive: elevation of one lower limb relative to antoher, assymmetrical gluteal folds
- Correlates: Unilateral Congenital Dysplasia of the hip
McMurray Test
- Maneuver: Patient lies supine with knee flexed (heel to butt), medially roates tibia and ecxtens the knee
- Correlates: meniscus lesion
