Living Cell Flashcards
What enters and leaves the cell membrane?
Enters : water, glucose, oxygen
Leaves: co2, excess water
What are the food reserves in animals and plant cells?
Animals: glycogen, fats
Plants: starch, oils

Similarities of plant and animal cells
Nucleus Cell membrane Mitochondria Ribosomes Cytoplasm
Differences between plant and animal cells
Plant cells: Chrloroplasts (autotrophic) Large central vacuole Cell wall Food reserve is: starchgranules
Animal Heterotrophic Irregular shape No cell wall Food reserve: glycogen granules
Division of labour : unicellular and multicellular
Unicellular: made up of 1 cell only. No division of labour
Multicellular: made up of several cells. Division of labour
What is a tissue
A group of cells working together, performing a particular job
Examples of tissues in plants and animals
Animals: blood,muscles,bones,nerves,cartilage
Plants: epidermis, cortex, pith, cambium
What is an organ
A number of tissues grouped together form this
Examples of organs in animals and plants
Animals : tongue,skin,kidneys,liver
Plants: roots,leaves,flower,stem
What is a system
Organs cannot work alone. Thus they work with other organs to make a system
Give examples of systems
Respiratiory Nervous Circulatory Skeletal Digestive Urinary Reproductive
Give advantages of multi cellular organisms over unicellular ones
- Division of labour can be performed, more complex activities can be carried out in an efficient way.
- In a multicellular organism, of one cell dies, it is quickly replaced. In unicellular orgasnisms, of the cell dies, the whole organism dies.
