What is a cause of liver cysts.
A
Hydatid disease.

What causes hydatid disease.
A
Cysts are caused by echinoccus granulosus.

What are the characteristics of liver cysts in hydatid disease. (2)
A
They may be single or multiple.
They usually occur in the lower part of the right lobe.

What are the clinical signs of hydatid disease. (2)
A
Clinically there may be no symptoms.
There may be a dull ache and swelling in the RH.

What WBC may be raised in hydatid disease. (2)
A
There is eosinophillia in 30% of cases.

How is hydatid disease diagnosed.
A
Ultrasound.

What is a complication of hydatid disease.
A
Rupture of the cyst into the biliary tree, other organs or intraperitoneally (spreads the infection).
