Q
How is Clothing used in the video?
A
- The actors portraying gang members are wearing dark, non-branded clothing. This plays into stereotypes that are needed to be used for short-form content, such as a music video, as the audience needs to quickly understand the roles of the characters
- Tom Grennan’s character is wearing bright, branded clothing as well as lots of jewellery. This could be symbolic of him striving for a better life and therefore dressing with aspirational. The jewellery is also a sign of perceived status, as if he wants to be more than he is

Q
How is Setting used in the video?
A
- The setting of the council estate represents the financial and economic struggle of being lower working-class.
- The couch positioned outside may be interpreted as being symbolic of the fly tipping and lack of care that the council gives into the cleanliness of these socially deprived areas, making them a highly undesirable place to live in

Q
How is Water used in the video?
A
- The repeated water/swimming imagery throughout the music video gives it a cyclical structure, with the beginning featuring Tom Grennan teaching his younger brother how to swim and it ending with them both jumping into the water together
- The cyclical structure could be symbolic of the cycle of deprivation many working-class people find themselves in
- Water can be representative of an escape, the binary opposition of the urban vs rural environment. It helps the character to get away from the harsh reality of their council estate setting.
