Techniques used by writer in their works to convey their messages
What is part one of literary device?
Diction, tone, imagery
What is part two of literary device?
(only one thing)
Figurative language: Words or phrases that are used in a way that is different from their usual, literal meaning in order to create a particular mental picture. Examples is metaphors, similie, alliteration, hyperbole, etc.
What is diction?
Refers to the word choice an author uses communicate ideas and create emotions
What is conntataion?
Is the implied or suggested meaning. Authors use specific word choices to create certain responses and emotions in the reader
What is denotation
Is the literal, dictionary meaning. Authors use specific word choices to create certain responses and emotions in the reader
What is tone?
How the author feels toward the subject of their writing authors word choice (diction) reveals the tone.
What is imagery?
The sue of words to to create pictures or images in your mind, they create strong images and have details about smells, sounds, colors, and taste.
What is symbolism?
Is a literary device that uses symbols such as words people marks locations or abstract ideas to represent something beyond the literal meaning

Campares two dissimilar things using like or as
What is a Metaphor?
Compares two dissimilar things without using like or as. Gives the qualites of one thing to something that is different
Personification?
A type of figurative language in which a non human subject is giving human characteristics
Hyperbole
A figure of speech that uses extreme exataration to make a point, show emphasis, or to evoke humor.
