What is characterization
The process by which the writer reveals the personality of a character. Charactization is revealed through direct characterization.
What is Direct Characterization
Tells the audience what the personality of the character is.
What is Inference
An inference is an opinion that you form based on what you already know. It is an educated guess using context clues.
What is Indirect characterization
Shows the audience what the personality of the character is. The audience can infer something about the character
What is STEAL
Says, Thoughts, Effects on others, action, looks
What does “says” mean?
The dialogue and how a character speaks to other characters
What does “thoughts” mean?
What a character thinks, believes, values, and what motivates a character.
What does “effects on others” mean?
The way other characters interact with the character and the emotions they cause others to feel.
What does “action” mean?
How a character behaves, including how they react to people and events.
What does “looks” mean?
A character’s physical apperance. This includes physical features, clothing, body language, etc
